Make an Appointment -

Use the location dropdown to specify where the appointment will take place. Selecting a different location will reload the appointment dates and times that are available to be booked.

If you need a consultation sooner than the appointment system allows, please email me (Elaine.M.Patton@LoneStar.edu) and we can work out an alternate arrangement. (A lot of questions can be answered via email and don't need a consultation, too!)

Please provide as much detail as you can about what we'll be working on (e.g. your research topic, what kinds of sources you need, where you've looked already, what search terms you've tried already, etc). If you have no idea where to get started, say so! I need to know where to begin so I'm not telling you what you already know.

What You Can Expect: 

  • Friendly, non-judgemental help for wherever you are in the research process -- it's okay if you haven't done this before! 
  • I'll point you in the right direction, but I generally will not just provide articles for you, especially if you're only just beginning your search.
  • Also, some questions can only be answered by your professor: it'll be up to you to ask them in class or to email them (but I can help you with wording). If you're going badly astray with your sources or plagiarism, you can also expect some tough love about how much you need to fix that right away and why!

What I Expect:

  • For you to have done as much as you're able, even if that's just reading the assignment and making sure you have a copy handy to reference. (You can attach a copy to your appointment, too!)
  • You should be prepared to be an active participant by having questions to ask and/or thoughts to share about your topic.
  • If something comes up, or you figure out a solution before your appointment, it's much appreciated if you use the cancel link that's in your confirmation email so I know to stop preparing!
